The Midland Hotel holds some of the most intriguing stories in Manchester. Rooted in rich history, it first opened its doors on 5th September in 1903, when it was owned and run by the Midland Railway Company. Back then, it even included its own theatre – today, it’s one of the best brunch hot spots in the city.
Since the grand opening, the hotel has welcomed kings, queens, presidents and a plethora of stars. For over a century now, The Midland Hotel has been THE place, hosting many special events, such as the rooftop wedding of Israel Seiff and Rebecca Marks (of Marks and Spencer).
Today, this beautiful Grade II listed building is one of Manchester’s most loved treasures. As well as housing The French, Mr Cooper’s and a luxurious spa, The Midland has also opened the city’s first dedicated venue for afternoon tea with The Tea Room, The Midland.
Set in an elegant backdrop, The Tea Room also offers a new menu to the fold – brunch. Served up in delicate bone china, complete with pretty white table cloths and beautiful cake stands. We were invited to sample of some the brunch delights.
We started brunch with a selection of savouries, including mini scrambled egg with smoked salmon on a toasted bagel. We also sampled a freshly baked cheese scone, served with tasty pancetta butter (or in our case, a vegetarian version).
Light yet hearty, our favourite of the offering was the brioche French toast with cinnamon, which we could have happily grazed on all morning. We also indulged on some teeny tiny pancakes with blueberry compote, and mini granola pots, with yoghurt and honey.
This was all washed down with a refreshing seasonal fruit smoothie shot.
All the while, we were served bottomless pots of loose leaf tea; we opted for house breakfast blend. We also enjoyed some fabulous mimosas, which went down an absolute treat and added that special touch to brunch.
Jens Hallman, General Manager at The Midland, said: “The Tea Room is a fantastic space and incredibly popular for afternoon teas, so introducing a brunch menu made total sense. We’re really excited about this – it’s something totally different, there isn’t anywhere else in Manchester that offers brunch in this format on a daily basis. It gives you a little bit of everything you might want from a brunch, with the option to enjoy a mid-morning cocktail if the mood takes you!”
